Substance Use Disorder Intensive Outpatient Treatment Program in Albuquerque

Substance Abuse and Addiction Recovery Services

Our caring and compassionate staff recognize that addiction is a disease. We’re not here to judge you. Only to help.

We developed this special substance abuse program to help serve the Albuquerque community as a way to give back. Our program is offered in an outpatient setting for those that don’t require inpatient care. We begin with an evaluation so that, together, we can develop a custom treatment plan that works for your specific needs. If you require detox, we also offer a medically supervised alcohol or drug detox service.

Our Substance Use Outpatient Program includes:

  • 12 weeks (meeting three times a week for three hours a day).
  • Flexible morning, afternoon, and evening times.
  • Individual and group therapy.
  • Drug screenings, legal reports, and collaborative care.
Our providers are here to help you meet your needs in a compassionate and understanding way.

Overcoming Drug and Alcohol Addiction and Disorders

Substance use disorder is a severe condition that is extremely difficult to fight on your own. Fortunately, there’s hope – Sage Neuroscience Center offers a number of treatment options designed to give you your best chance at a successful recovery. For most people, the process involves crafting a unique intensive outpatient treatment program (IOP) that is individualized and optimized just for you.

More commonly known as drug or alcohol addiction, Substance Use Disorder is defined as a disease in which a person’s brain is not able to control the use of a particular substance – most often alcohol, illegal drugs, prescription medication, or even nicotine. Over time, if you get used to always having these substances, your body becomes dependent on them. When you have an addiction to a substance, you need to consume it every day to function. This means maintaining daily activities despite the negative effects it has on your daily functioning, your daily tasks, your work or school, your health, or your personal relationships.

What Is a Substance Use Disorder Intensive Outpatient Program?

An intensive outpatient program, or IOP, includes regular, scheduled sessions to address addiction treatment and individual therapy, group therapy, or both. While addiction treatment and therapy can also be offered as a part of a residential treatment program, an addiction recovery outpatient program offers resources, counseling, and potential medication management on an outpatient basis. That means that you’ll experience the same cutting-edge therapies, interventions, and treatments as residents in a full-time program on a schedule that works for you.

Unlike residential treatment facilities, which require a 24/7 stay at a treatment facility, our outpatient drug and alcohol rehab services take place on a part-day schedule.

Depending on your needs, while you’re at Sage, you may be able to access multiple evidence-based, proven treatment options, including:

  • Mindfulness training
  • Matrix model treatment
  • Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT)
  • Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT)
  • Group therapy
  • Individual therapy
  • Nutrition training
  • Breathwork
  • Chemistry of Addiction training
  • Trigger identification
  • Boundaries and impulse control
  • Psychoeducational teaching
  • Self-worth
  • Treatment for co-occurring mental health or medical conditions
  • Medication-assisted treatment and medication monitoring
  • Relapse prevention
  • Family or couples counseling

How Does an IOP Work At Sage?

At Sage Neuroscience Center, our Albuquerque Substance Use Disorder Intensive Outpatient Program takes place over the course of 12 weeks. You’ll choose from a variety of morning, afternoon, and evening meeting times and develop a three times weekly schedule of three-hour sessions that work for you. While you are at our center, you’ll participate in a series of carefully selected therapies and interventions as a part of your personal care plan.

The first step in seeking substance use disorder treatment is a full medical and psychiatric evaluation. This helps to pinpoint the root causes of your substance use, determine the severity of your symptoms and helps to build a customized treatment plan for you. Before your IOP begins and depending on the severity of your disorder, you may require detoxification. In this case, we offer IOP detox services to help you manage any withdrawal symptoms and avoid relapse during the early stages of recovery.

Who Should Utilize an IOP?

As mentioned, substance use disorder is extremely difficult to recover from by yourself. This disorder has the potential to completely disrupt a person’s life and also negatively affect their health – particularly when it comes to the brain and body chemistry so vital to essential body functions. Body functions like cognition, respiration, metabolism, and more keep you alive so it’s important that your detox is handled with care. Once the body is dependent on a substance to continue functioning, it can be nearly impossible to resume a normal life without professional medical and psychological assistance.

In the most severe cases, some individuals may benefit from utilizing a residential treatment facility for detoxification and the initial stages of recovery. When 24/7 medical attention is not necessary or you have less severe symptoms, you can utilize IOP as a step-down from a residential facility. Alternatively, if you have a less severe form of addiction, you may be able to begin with an IOP.

Benefits of Our Substance Use Disorder IOP Services

In the years since the establishment of our intensive outpatient programs, patients and researchers have validated the success of this type of substance abuse treatment. Our treatment program takes place in a top-of-the-line facility with full access to medical and mental health services. You’ll find the same attention to your co-occurring medical and mental health conditions as well as continuous monitoring of your physical health, medication management, and mental health all under one roof as you would in a residential facility.

With outpatient care, you will experience some marked advantages over other types of treatment.

Compared to a residential rehab facility or traditional outpatient care, our addiction recovery outpatient program holds the following benefits:

  • Truly balanced care. IOPs require a shorter time and financial commitment than most inpatient treatment programs but are more intensive and feature more programming than regular outpatient drug and alcohol rehabs.
  • Enhanced access to therapies. Our structured delivery system allows you to access intensive therapies and educational opportunities at regular intervals. Many of our patients see more progress over a shorter period of time than with any other type of treatment.
  • Flexible scheduling. While our substance use disorder IOP is a carefully structured program, you can attend sessions when it works for your schedule. As a result, most patients can continue to meet job, school, and family commitments with ease.
