We take our role in the on-going management of pediatric and adolescent psychopathology very seriously, working closely with each child and his or her support system to create and maintain a highly effective, safe, and ethical approach to treatment.
Currently, Sage Neuroscience Center does not offer nor do neuropsychological testing; we are happy to refer.
Child Therapy and Psychiatric Medical Management
Child Therapy is a highly specialized field. At times, it can be far more challenging to provide successful counseling to a young child than to an adult. The way pathology presents in the clinical setting or a host of other complex issues warrants a more cautious and thorough approach to the therapeutic relationship.
Many young children have experienced or witnessed their family members experience extremely harsh or dangerous conditions. Without the ability to conceptualize these events with the benefit of advanced cognitive ability, a child will often resort to a previous level of developmental functioning. Children commonly express their confusion through “acting out” behaviors or marked withdrawal from their usual level of functioning. Clinical issues such as ADHD, ADD, and Developmental Disorders often develop out of the child’s inability to understand or navigate these trying times.
Sage Neuroscience Center takes our approach to Child Counseling very seriously. Our staff of Child Psychiatrists, Nurse Practitioners, and Child Therapists is highly trained in the many intricacies of providing excellent care to our younger patients. A Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) approach is the most effective when dealing with these complex issues by allowing a medication prescriber to work closely with the counselor that sees the child individually or with his or her support system. Staffing young patients regularly in MDT meetings is a proven way to ensure that our clients receive the most effective and safe counseling experience as possible. Working closely with the child’s family members and support system keeps goals and interventions at the forefront of all concerned parties’ attention. Our goal at Sage Neuroscience Center is to help a child feel supported, safe, and motivated to improve.
